Acne & Acne Scars
Acne is a hormonal and inflammatory skin condition that occurs primarily after puberty and into early adulthood. There are many cases that persist into adulthood and often manifest with deep below-the-surface or “cystic” pimples. Acne occurs as a result of overactive oil glands and congested skin pores that becomes secondarily infected with bacteria. Treating the underlying cause is the most important component of successful acne therapy. During your consultation, Dr. Weiser will discuss the type of acne you have and give you several medical treatment options to address your skin condition. She can medically extract comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and routinely provides injections of cortisone to calm inflamed cystic lesions. In addition to medical therapy, there are numerous cosmetic treatments that can be helpful in the treatment of active acne, such as microdermabrasion, blue/red light therapy, intense pulse light, and chemical peels.
Dr. Weiser has expertise in treatment of acne scars, both red scars and atrophic scars (ice pick, boxcar, and rolling types). She uses a variety of technologies (laser, CROSS procedure, etc) that can be addressed during your consultation to maximize your individual results.
